Biographical: Aaron lived at Lower Alloway Creek, N.J. He was a farmer. On Feb.29,1808, Hannah and her last five living children were received by the Greenwich Meeting. They had one son who died in infancy.
Aaron was remarkable for his early piety and upright deportment among his fellowmen through life, so much so, he was held up by the Society of Friends generally as an example to be followed. The Memoir of Rev. Farnsworth says, 'Aaron Fogg lost an eye by the bayonet of a British soldier because he would not foget he was a Quaker.'
Hannah Reeves, wife of Mark Reeves, sold Aaron 'Fog' forty acres of land in the township of Alloways Creek being a part of a certain tract of land formerly belonging to John Pain. John Pain, by his last Will and Testament bearing date the 20th day of September 1726 did bequeath his said lands to Richard Smith and the said Richard Smith by his last Will and Testament bearing date Feb.1740 did give and bequeath the said land to his son Richard Smith and the said Richard Smith and Suzannah his wife did sell and convey 100 acres of said land to Mark Reeves by their Deed bearing date 14th day of 4th month 1784.....and the said Mark Reeve by his last Will and Testament bearing date 16th day of 10th month 1788 did give and bequeath to his wife Hannah Reeve his Heirs and Assigns forever 50 acres of said land .... of which above 40 acres is a part and is butted and Bounded as followeth. Beginning at a stone standing opposite the end of the lane that goes to Bate's house in the line between said Hezekiah Bates and Josiah Reeves runs from thence North 4 degrees and a quarter west 55 rod and 12 links to a stone for a corner ..... dated Oct.6 1792

Residence, Occupation, Biograpical information: "Samuel Allen Fogg was born in Salem, New Jersey, and was a bricklayer by occupation. He was of English descent, and also a member of the Society of Friends. During the latter years of his life he was in the undertaking business." This information is from A History of Delaware County Pennsylvania and Its People, Jordan, John W., Editor. The text of the entire entry can be clicked on and viewed from the Histories section above.
Occupation: "Mr. Fogg began working at bricklaying in 1821, and in 1821 entered business for himself, becoming a master in his craft, which he followed for 30 years. Among the noteworthy pieces of work done by him were two large buildings erected for the Richard Norris locomotive works, on Hamilton Street, in 1844, which are still in use. He placed the first steam boilers in the U.S. Mint, and it is said the chimney on the Mint was built after a plan made by Mr. Fogg to prevent the hot air from cracking the outside walls of the chimney. He had built one on a similar plan for John Flanagan of Camden, and afterwards one for Richard Norris. Mr. Fogg built the first gas retort for Dr. Drake, who was the first person to try the experiment of making gas to supply private individuals. After retiring from the bricklaying business he carried on the undertaking business for nearly 20 years. Mr. and Mrs. Fogg are both enjoying good health, Mrs. Fogg being in her 83rd year."
"came to Philadelphia at the age of 16 to learn the trade of bricklaying with Powel Carpenter. He was afterward with Aaron Fogg, his brother, for some years, and carried on business successfully for himself for many years. Among the operations of his business life were the stacks at the Norris Locomotive Works and the retorts for the first introduction of gas in Philadelphia. In 1821, he helped build the old printing house for Chittendon, at Broad and Lehigh Avenue, which was recently demolished by the Reading railroad. In 1861 he started in the undertaking business and continued until 15 years ago, when he retired from active life." Conflict: Jordan and all records from the Friends South Western Burial Ground and his headstone indicate a death date of 28 Nov 1893. Whitten indicates 21 or 30 Nov 1893. The Rudolph Family Bible #3 - Dates between 1824 and 1934 - Deaths Page indicates 1 Feb 1887. The cemetery records and headstone were selected as the most accurate. | Samuel Bern Fogg

Some confusion in the Riverside Cemetery burial records about Alena's name and lot/grave number:
Both her Death Certificate as informed by her husband Claude Lee and her Record of Funeral from the funeral home as paid for by her husband Claude Lee, list her name as Alena F Lee.
The original (non-computerized) cemetery plot plan from the City of Norfolk for Lot 31, along with the City of Norfolk 'Graves' system, both list her name as Lena F Lee and that she's in Lot 31 Grave 4, next to her husband Claude Lee. As well her husband Claude Lee's 1918 Draft Registration Card lists her name as Lena F Lee. However there is no City of Norfolk Interment card for a Lena Lee per the City of Norfolk microfilm.
Alternatively, there is a City of Norfolk Interment Card for the adjacent Lot 32 Grave 4 for Allen F. Lee showing the exact same age at death of 22 years and the exact same burial date of 4 Jan 1920. This Interment Card agrees with the City of Norfolk 'Graves' system showing Allen F Lee in Lot 32 Grave 4.
There is possibly a typo in the computerization of the original cemetery plot plan from the City of Norfolk, with Alena F Lee/Allen F Lee being transcribed incorrectly. But there also remains the possability that there are two different people buried in the adjacent Lots 31 and 32 with very similar names.
Hopefully someone comes across information in the future which resolves this question. | Alena Franklin
